An important part of DHA's mission is to promote decorative hardwood products. Architects and designers are key decision makers in the purchase of our products. I'm happy to report that architects and designers have responded with overwhelming interest in DHA's continuing education course, Hardwood Plywood, Engineered Wood Floors, and Hardwood Veneer: The Basics. In the first four months alone, more than 1,300 design professionals have already completed our course, demonstrating an incredible interest in decorative hardwoods.

We know wood stores carbon and hardwood products reduce global warming potential. The Hardwood Federation recently advocated for these benefits to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, using DHA's recent Environmental Product Declaration for engineered wood floors to illustrate their point.

The Real American Hardwood® Coalition, supported by DHA and many other hardwood industry associations and members, has been hard at work for more than two years to develop and launch a consumer campaign highlighting the beauty and benefits of hardwoods. The top story for this eNews—and perhaps the year—is the Commerce Department's ruling that hardwood plywood from Vietnam made using Chinese materials is subject to the duties on hardwood plywood from China. These duties are often more than 200%. This is a big win for U.S. workers and the U.S. manufacturers of hardwood plywood in the Coalition for Fair Trade of Hardwood Plywood, which filed the circumvention case more than three years ago.

An important part of our mission at DHA is promoting decorative hardwoods. We have taken that to a new level in the last two months: the number of architects and designers who have completed our continuing education courses has surged. The first course we added to the GreenCE site—an online platform that educates architects, engineers, and designers—introduces this important audience to the benefits and sustainability of hardwood plywood, veneer, and engineered wood flooring.
