HPVA® eNews - BREAKING NEWS: Action Needed Now To Level The Fair-Trade Playing Field

As Chinese hardwood plywood imports surged from $54 million in 2001 to nearly $1.1 billion in 2016, 42 U.S. mills have been forced to close, devastating rural communities. HPVA® President Kip Howlett’s op-ed in The Hill highlights that the time is now to level the fair-trade playing field. China is the largest importer of logs - and the largest estimated importer of illegal logs - in the world. China is also the largest exporter of hardwood plywood, and, per the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, "almost all illegal hardwood plywood is exported."
